  • Jul 07, 2019  If you permanently load web pages with the Google Chrome web browser, the message 'Resolving proxy' or 'Chrome Downloading Proxy Script' can appear in the lower left corner of the browser window. If you find your chrome running too slow or chrome using 100% processor power then we have a detailed guide on it.
  1. Chrome Downloading
  2. Chrome Gets Stuck On Downloading Proxy S…

Aug 10, 2017  This tutorial is how to fix and get past the message and turn it off so you never get it again. I was working on Windows 10 but it also works on Apple's Mac, Windows 7 and windows 8. Click the Chrome menu button on the browser toolbar. Select Settings. Click Show advanced settings. In the “Network” section, click Change proxy settings. This will open the Windows Internet Properties dialog. Click LAN settings. Deselect the “Automatically detect settings” checkbox.

If you read the last comment

Discovered a work-around, which may be helpful in diagnosing the issue.

I disable the Wi-Fi adapter. (I'm on a laptop with both Wi-Fi and LAN.)

That's it - the 'proxy script' prompt immediately disappears, as Chrome connects via the LAN instead.

Once it's connected, I can re-enable the Wi-Fi and everything is back to normal.

Since you have a confirmed that you use both Wifi and LAN, I assume this is the issue you are facing and it is known chrome bug.

If your client proxy setting for the browser is set to ‘automatic’ then your browser will try http://wpad/proxy.pac to find a javascript that tells it what to do. If it is not available, your observation might be explained. To avoid this set the proxy to ‘direct connection’ or adjust the proxy.pac file on the proxy.

Also note that I've downloaded the Alpha release and was able to reproduce in that version as well.

Does adding a delay to the start of OGCS help?

This page also explains how to resolve the issue. Are you sure OGCS is causing this behaviour? Ie. if you don't start OGCS on startup, the Automatically detect settings box doesn't get checked, but it does if you do start OGCS on startup?

Hi Paul.
First off, thanks for the reply. I've been doing some testing, trying to isolate the issue. In regards to the Automatic configuration settings, I'm on a corporate machine that uses an automatic configuration script with a specific address. Automatically detect settings is not checked. A couple things that I've tried:

  1. Set OGCS to max start delay, issue was still present
  2. Set OGCS to not start at all upon boot, issue was still present
  3. Uninstalled OGCS completely, issue resolved.

Chrome Gets Stuck On Downloading Proxy S…

Wait, I was just wondering why LAN Settings from Internet explorer are located in Chrome settings?
Google should make its own in-built settings to turn on or off proxy, like we have many extensions present for that. Hows.Tech has pointed out precisely at Automatic Updating of Proxy and DNS

Update - I am no longer seeing this issue with the latest release from Microsoft. For me, it seemed the real culprit was that while connected via LAN the WLAN would flicker on and off, trying to connect, causing Chrome to not be able to get a stable connection. I still do not know what was causing this issue.
