  • Windows 10 / Devices & drivers. My tablet is a WP8060, originally manufactured by DigiPro I believe. I don't have any software to calibrate this tablet, apps.

Platform: Windows 10 Date: 2015-08-19 Latest OS Updates Applied?: Yes. All updates applied during morning boot. Latest drivers installed?: Yes. Latest drivers from 2014 (bad developer! bad!) installed during trial and error session.

After the latest round of updates on Windows 10, a few bugs have cropped up with a couple of my peripherals and apps and I thought I would post a tiny white paper on how i encountered the issues, what process I went through to fix them, and the final fixes that did, indeed, work for me.

The issues: 1)Apps losing 'Run as admin' flag on reboot 2)Drivers for graphics tablet needing to be run as admin in order to work IN apps they were designed for 3)Keyboard now likes to type an 'a' after every press of the tab key

Issue 1) Custom settings for apps not being recalled when app is restarted after update reboot.

For the last two, to two and a half weeks I've been running windows 10 without any problems whatsoever with any of my programs. needless to say I was pleasantly surprised by how well all my art programs and drivers seemed to have handled the transition to the new platform and almost restored my faith in MS being able to roll out a new OS that wasn't a huge pain. Almost.

Fast forward to this morning. There I am sipping my required daily dose of caffeine and opening up my art software to begin my glorious day of coloring and sketching out layouts for a new title when I noticed that the software opens up but my workspace is blank and none of my custom settings are there. I also notice that when I go into the workspace window to restore my UI to my custom settings, none of my other UI settings are there. Strange. I set my workspace back up the way I like it, close the app and restart it and same problem. It's all blank again and no saved workspace under the list of workspace templates. I closed the application down and looked at the icon on my desktop and realized that the little 'run as administrator' shield is no longer there so I Right click shortcut>compatibility tab>run as admin and restart the app. Lo and behold the app is back in the state I left it in prior to this morning's cumulative update installation during boot. So, problem fixed. App was running buggy so i re-enabled its run as admin flag to fix it. IMO, I shouldn't have to run it as admin in order for it to retain and call back settings for users but whatever.

TLDR: Give the app run as admin rights. Fixed.

Issue 2) Graphics pen pressure sensitivity is not being detected by application.

Chase Private Client' is the brand name for a banking and investment product and service offering. Chase freedom to activate card. JPMCB, JPMS and CIA are affiliated companies under the common control of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (CIA), a licensed insurance agency, doing business as Chase Insurance Agency Services, Inc. Products not available in all states.'

At first I assumed this was a driver issue so I went to the mfr site and sought out the current drivers for my O/S. They don't exist. So I got the 'latest drivers' for my tablet (Monoprice 10' tablet) from the logic board maker for the product. UC logic. The latest driver, after some trial and error, turned out to be in their legacy section and was dated November of 2014. Not great but all I had.

The recommended way to install these drivers is to unplug the tablet from USB>uninstall old drivers>reboot>Install new drivers>reboot>plug in tablet. Pain in the butt. Went through the process and still no pressure detection in app. However, I did notice that the driver itself was detecting pressure just fine in its native pressure adjustment window. (tab within the driver application window). After some more coffee and playing some #hearthstone to clear the mind, I got a hunch that perhaps if I elevated the rights of the driver to admin status that it would then be able to be picked up by the app.

so, off I went.

TLDR Fix:

  1. unplugged tablet

  2. Ctrl+Alt+Del>find driver>right click>open file location>right click driver *.exe file>compatibility tab>run as admin ticked>okay.

  3. Went back to process explorer, stopped tablet driver process.

  4. Switched to executable file in folder (where I right clicked it to elevate its rights) and restarted driver.

  5. Plugged tablet back in

  6. Started app

  7. Tested pressure detection and it worked.

  8. Drank more coffee cursed #Microsoft for weird bugs.

Issue 3)

Unplugged and re-plugged keyboard. Seems to have fixed it. Maybe. We shall see.
